2009 teenagers challenge -
WHAT IS IT?
more new links on our News page - click here

Every day in the UK, 6 teenagers and young adults* hear the words -
'You have cancer'
That's over 2000 each year
Many are treated on wards with toddlers and babies, or with much older adults. Neither is appropriate for them.
Imagine being 16 and having not only ‘bad hair days’ but ‘no hair days’ or watching your friends play football when you face the prospect of losing a limb.

Teenage Cancer Trust helps young people fight cancer in many ways but its main priority is to build specialist age appropriate Units in NHS Hospitals - somewhere for young people to be treated with other young people their own age.

The 2009 Teenagers challenge is a fun way to raise a lot of money locally to help those young people affected by cancer.

In Scotland we aim to sign up 2009 teenagers in both the East of Scotland and the West of Scotland  to raise £50 each we will have raised £100,450 towards our regional targets.

In East of Scotland, our goal is to raise £500,000 by the end of 2009 towards a Unit at the Western General Hospital for older teenagers and young adults.
In the West of Scotland our first goal is to raise £350,000 for a unit at Yorkhill Hospital.

So, are YOU up for helping us?

If your answer is yes, let's get started.

Scotland’s rugby captain, Mike Blair, who is backing the campaign had to say: “This is a great idea.  Who better to raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust than other teenagers.  You could have a lot of fun coming up with creative ways to raise £50, knowing that it will be used in such a valuable way.  I know when I was a teenager, the last thing I wanted to do was hang out with grown ups or little kids - this money will allow teenagers with cancer to have their own space in hospital where they can share a ward with other teenagers, playing computer games or just chilling out.”

and our first teenager to sign up!

"My cousin had cancer she was 13 when she was diagnosed.

Since then it has been important for me to raise awareness about teenagers with cancer, and helping as much as I can.

£50 is not such a lot of money to raise and if we can do it together it would make a huge difference."

Rosie, aged  15
